Founded in 1888 as "Van der Graaf & Co's Merkenbureau", the name of the company has since changed three times. As the company's activities expending beyond its national borders, its name was changed to "Internationaal Merkenbureau Van der Graaf & Co's NV" in 1953. The name "Markgraaf" was chosen in 1978 and, following the merger with Novamark in 2000, the dawn of the new millennium was ushered in with the new name "Novagraaf".
